Ministries

At Athens SDA we hope to provide a home for all who come. We understand that each path is different and that all stories have value as a ministry for God. Because of this we seek to find ways to reach each person that comes through out doors. Whether you are a college student, young family, retiree, or anybody else it is our hope to provide a ministry to serve your needs.

Here are our current ministries that function both during our worship services and at other times during the week:

  • Audio/Visual
  • Collegiate/Young Adults
  • Communications
    • We keep the community informed through our weekly worship bulletin, our website, and our newsletter that's emailed each week. Sign up here for the newsletter.
  • Community Services
    • Every 3rd Thursday of the month, a group leads out in feeding the homeless in our community through Our Daily Bread.
    • We also share food baskets with families in need especially around holiday times such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.
    • Anyone can donate non perishable items to our church pantry.
  • Deacons/Deaconess
  • Families
  • Health
    • We're currently hosting a Reversing Diabetes seminar every Tuesday until the first week of October and we plan to do this again.
  • Hospitality/Greeters
    • Want to join a group of people who aim to help us all feel at home when we come to worship? This ministry is invaluable and means sacrificing time away from our Sabbath School time and portions of our worship service.
  • Music
  • Prayer
    • Prayer meeting 7pm every Wednesday
    • Currently we are reading The Desire of Ages, one chapter each week. We open with prayer and then at the end we share prayer requests and pray around the circle.

    • Starting in September, on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, we'll change the format a bit and have longer periods of prayer time.

  • Religious Liberty
  • Sabbath School
    • See additional information on this page
  • Social Activities
  • Stewardship
  • Vacation Bible School
  • Women
    • Prayer Group on the 2nd and 4th Thursday at 10am
    • Every time we meet we study a woman of the Bible. In November we will meet only the second Thursday. Sometimes we bring something for lunch to share or we go out to eat. We usually meet for a little more than an for study and prayer.

Sabbath School: Our Sabbath School classes range from infants to adult. Classes start at 10am but you are welcome to come anytime after 9:30am to meet and enjoy fellowship with fellow believers.

The following classes take place on Saturday mornings at 10am and can be found in the duplex to the left of the parking lot:

Cradleroll/Beginners 0-3:

Parents and their children gather here each Sabbath for a fun hands-on class where they form the foundations of their walk with Jesus. Enjoy songs, crafts, and snacks with this awesome class

Kindergarden/Primary 4-8:

School aged children will enjoy the opportunity to meet, do crafts, sing songs, and learn Bible lessons. The focus here is on Jesus and His love for us and how it can work in our lives.

Teens:

High School aged students will enjoy this interactive class where they begin to get their feet wet in ministry. Discussions about beliefs, how to walk daily with Jesus, and fun and interactive activities are some of the things you will find here.

Collegiate/Young Adult: This is a place where people 18-35 can meet, fellowship, and grow in their daily walk. Whether you're a student at UGA, UNG, Piedmont, or Athens Tech you can find a home here. Young professionals and others are encouraged to come and plug in also!

The following classes meet in the church:

Adult: This is your traditional class found in most sanctuaries. We study the Adult Sabbath School Quarterly, if you don't have a copy feel free to download one (free!) on any smartphone from the App store. If you prefer a paper copy we typically have a few available, ask the greeter or a deacon and they'll be happy to help.

Adult Small Group: Prefer a smaller, more intimate setting? This group also studies the Adult Sabbath School Quarterly with a focus on individual growth and making connections. We usually meet down the hallway from the sanctuary in the overflow room.
